RnR Chicago Training Week 5
Hello. I hope you had a great weekend. We did over on this end of blogland. It was a busy and relaxing weekend all in one. Somehow though while I was stretching my legs this morning I fell back asleep on the floor in the living room for a half hour. Guess I wasnt quite ready to wake up.
I guess I need to do an update on my training since I purposely skipped updating last week. Did you even notice? The week before last was really rough. I actually broke one of my rules when it comes to working on the show I work on. NO CRYING. I had one night of just utter stress and anxiety, that I had to release it somehow. Not knowing your job future and planning a million dollar show is tough to deal with. Either way I am going to deal with it and since life is short, I need to focus on what makes me happy.
That being said, lets recap last week and this weekend.
Monday: Rest Day
I had the plan to hit the gym after work, but my stomach told me otherwise. I actually had to leave work early because I couldnt stand being in the office. I was nauseous all day. I ended up working from home, but I knew there was no exercise to be done with stomach issues.
Tuesday: 3 miles
I ran with a running group with the shoe store I bought my shoes from with a friend. We ran 3 miles of my favorite running trail and boy was it HOT. The humidity was thick and it was hard to push. We ended up walking/running because my legs were really tight and it was hard to breathe. Still doesnt change my thoughts on training in the summer…..LOVE IT.
Wednesday: 5 miles
My friend and I started our run on a different part of the trail we love and realized a run wasnt in our cards. My legs were tight and our original plan was to do the elliptical at the gym. Needless to say, we did not have the proper sports bras on for a run (especially me). It was a great walk with nice hills and I was able to enjoy our surroundings. We saw two deer and a beaver swimming in the creek. It was so cool to watch/follow/stalk him.
Thursday: Rest
Id call this an active rest day. I started scrubbing the apartment because the pollen has decreased enough that we wont have to worry about tracking it in.
Friday: Rest
I think this day was just pure laziness. I was tired, I had a lot of anxiety at the beginning of the day, and I just wanted to relax for one day.
Saturday: 3 miles
I had 5 miles on deck and knew I was doing hill training with my running group that day. When I got there it was HOOOTTTT! There was a rep from 110% Compression at the store letting us try on the different types of compression sleeves they offer during our hill run. I asked for a calf sleeve and put it on my left leg (the leg of trouble and woe). This was perfect timing as I have been looking into buying compression for my legs. We hit the course and boy it was a monster. I knew I was not going to get my five miles in because the hill they had us run (a simulation of the hill we will run during Peachtree) was tough. It was one of those hills you look up thinking you are almost to the top and you arent even half way. I did that hill 5 times for a total of 3 miles. When I got back to the store, the rep placed an ice pack in my compression sleeve and the recovery was amazing. My left leg felt great. Even during the hills I noticed my left leg was doing better than my right.
After my run, I met my friend and we walked to the park for the Atlanta Soapbox Race. It was a lot of fun to watch these crazy cars come flying down the hill, but it was hot, sweaty, and crowded, so we made it about 8 cars in (after being there for a total of 2.5 hours) and decided it was smart to leave and find some water. We ended up walking another 2 miles so that counts for 5 right? Im not technically counting it, dont worry.
By the time I got home, I was wiped. I took a 30 min nap (thats all I am good for) and Matt and I got ready for dinner because he wanted to watch game 7 (Celtics vs Miami) at a sports bar. We made it almost to halftime and left because I was so freaking tired.
Sunday: Rest
It was rainy, I was tired, and we had to be adults. We bought a carpet cleaner to steam clean the couch and the carpet. We also bought an ice cream maker because Matt has been dying to have one. While I didnt get to try any of the ice cream bc the tub needed to chill for a full day before we could use it. Darn. I may have snuck some this morning before work and boy was it good.
Right now I am actually still up in the air as to whether or not I am going to run RnR Chicago. It bums me out to have to even reconsider. Flights are a little ridiculous and my training is suffering tremendously because of work. When I signed up for the race, I was in a different position. I am grateful for my new position, but my show is in July and breaks the Friday BEFORE the race. I still have hope and will base it on my next few long runs and flight prices.
How was your weekend?
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Stick around for tomorrow. I have a post about something new we are trying and a GIVEAWAY!

Sounds like a good week! Ice cream makers are fun! I haven’t tried out too many flavors, but I made a yummy blueberry yogurt last summer.
