Headboard Project Complete
Happy Saturday everyone! I hope you are enjoying it so far. I actually was given the day off today and I couldnt be more grateful. I am still answering phone calls and checking emails while I am at home, but Im letting my head rest for one day. This past week I have had some brutal headaches, so it will be nice for a break.
Last weekend, during my one day off, I got ambitious. My mom was going to come over and help me with a few projects I have on my list, but bailed on me. Bailed on her own daughter. Tragic. Anyways, right now our focus in the apartment is to complete our bedroom. Have you seen my DIY page on the top of this blog? Check it out.
Our bedroom is probably the biggest room we have ever had so there is a lot of empty space to fill. Check out pictures of our room here.
Here is out to do list for the Master Bedroom:
Build Headboard
Find nightstands
Sew pillows
Curtains
Spruce up bedding
The first project of the room was the headboard. I am going for a beachy, not over the top themey room. While I was perusing Pinterest, I ran into this:

I fell in love. If you want to see how she did this, check out PB&J Stories. But lets check out my version, shall we?
I hit up my local Home Depot for some materials. My shopping list was simple:
5-6′ pine boards
2-2×4′ braces
wood screws
wood stain
I was lucky to find there was a 2×4 already cut and scrapped so I bought it for a whopping 51 cents! Bazinga!
After all was said and done, this project cost $50.
First I braced the back of the pine boards with the 2x4s and screwed them in on each side. This part sucked because the 2x4s were a hard wood and our drill didnt have enough power. I had to use a screw in each screw by hand. OUCH!
I still need to add some bracing to the back because its a little wobbly, but it will work for now.
I decided to use the same stain that we used on the top of our dresser: Minwax Special Walnut. This was an easy process. Stain, wipe, repeat.

After letting it dry for 24 hours, I was planning to attach it to my bed, but thanks to a massive headache I decided to lean it against the wall. To add a little ambience to the room, I bought wall lamps from IKEA.
The final product:

I am really happy with the way it looks. Eventually I will attach it to the bed and brace the back, but for now it makes the room so much cozier! And not only do we have a new headboard but all of that bedding is brand new from Pottery Barn. Of course, it was either on crazy sale, from the outlets, or given as a gift.
So lets just scratch some things off the listy loo
Build Headboard
Find nightstands
Sew pillows ~ not really needing to do this now since I have new pillows and bedding
Curtains
Spruce up bedding
I am also going to add to that list: fix my antique chest (next DIY post by the way) and add wall art.
I am off to clean my house and get ready for my friends football playoff party. Have a great weekend!!
