Chicago RnR Training Begins

Posted by on May 7, 2012

Hi everyone!  I hope you had a great weekend!  I have to say I did a lot of resting this weekend.  Mainly catching up from the week and because both nights I had to take benadryl to calm my allergies. I was so tired I didnt leave the house Saturday until after 4pm.

Today was the start of my training cycle for RnR Chicago.  I am so excited about this cycle.  I am planning on taking a different approach this time around to conserve my legs.  I found a great training plan that incorporates run/walk intervals. Today was technically a rest day on the schedule, but I had to know what to expect with my leg.  As you know, I have taken the month off because of the pain in my left leg.

I pulled into the park I was planning on running around noon.  Nice and HOT!  But I soaked it up.  I have a weird gene that makes me LOVE heat.  I love training in it.  Weirdo right?

When I got to the start I had major butterflies.  I was scared my leg wouldnt cooperate.  I didnt want to deal with the pain.  I started walking a few feet and took off.  My goal was to run one mile at a very slow pace.  It was just a test run and I didnt want to push it.  I started running and made sure I didnt look at my Garmin until I felt I went a mile.  Part of my training is to stop relying on my Garmin as much as I do.  I think it has been leading me to disappointment.  I thought back to my first training cycle when I didnt have Garm and I felt less pressure.

I made it the first mile and felt amazing!  Absolutely amazing!  I did it at my slowest pace ever (12:20) and decided to stop and stretch.  Conserve Conserve Conserve.  On my way back to the car, I ran/walked.  Two miles!  I was on cloud 9.  It was a pain free run and pushed me into running mode.  I couldnt stop smiling.  I got back in the car to cool down and hydrate because I was feeling mighty overheated.

My happiness ended quickly though.  I was sitting at a red light when all of the sudden my car was in the air.  I screamed so loud.  Some guy rear ended me!  MY NEW CAR!  I ended up calling the police (after he asked me not to) and waited around while he filed a report (the guy asked me not to file a report).  He wanted me to go to his body shop too.  He was sleazy, very sleazy.

My poor car.  There was way more damage to his car, but because he went UNDER my car there is more damage you cant see.  I have to file a claim tomorrow with my insurance company.  The whole situation was weird.  At least no one was hurt.

I hope this doesnt set the tone for training season.

Hi there! I am here from the SITS Spring Fling. Great to hear that you were able to run pain-free. But I am sorry to hear about your car! I am glad that you are okay but what a sleazebag! He didn’t want you to call the police or file a report? Strange…

Thanks for stopping by! It was a really weird situation. I felt scammed and I wasnt buying anything!! Good thing I spend $$ with insurance so they can take care of it for me!

      Have a great day!

Aww, that sucks! I’m sorry you got rear ended, and that guy sounds super shady. Hopefully your car is back in tip top shape soon!

Oh no! Good for you for not letting him talk you into not calling the police. That’s a slimy thing to even offer.

That sucks about your car but sometimes good people do bad things – he may have just wanted to not go through insurance so he could just pay you straight up for the repairs?? but I guess if he was weird and sleazy you made the right call. I’ve just been the rear person before, so I have gone super easy on people hitting me too :)

I am glad you are ok and that you had a pain-free run/walk!

I thought the same thing for one second and just couldnt trust it by his actions. He pushed me to go to his body shop and do everything under the table. In other words he wanted to do a half a$$ job on a brand new car. I felt a scam brewing with both the driver and the dealer.
